The race that stops the nation

The race that stops the nation

Here in Melbourne, we are celebrating Cup Day- often referred to as 'the race that stops the nation'. There are 24 horses/jockeys with an international contingent represented. The horse race is run over 3200 metres held at Flemington Racecourse.  A lot of preparation goes into the spring carnival- and this year is no exception as it is the 150th running of the Melbourne Cup.

Over the years, the 3-minute race that stops the nation has become a long weekend- some people taking off Friday and others taking Monday before the big race. Some party hard on Cup Day and some people need Wednesday to recover. There are those who have a flutter on the big race too once a year and those more experienced in picking a winner.
Sadly though, many people do not take the race to eternal glory as seriously.  We can become lukewarm and not put in as much preparation as we do for the Melbourne Cup. We forget to even place a bet on a race which, with God's help, we can win.
On this Melbourne Cup day, why not consider your preparation for the race to eternal glory- the prize is not a cup, however beautiful it may be for the owners and the trainers, but a secure place in our homeland-Heaven.
If your spiritual life training has slowed down to a canter, why not crack the whip and gallop to victory.
Let us all get on our horses and be in the race to eternal glory- and stop all nations.
