Genesis Series: chapter 46

GENESIS SERIES.

THE MASS: GENESIS  SERIES.

Chapter 46 Completion of Reconciliation for Joseph and his family

God appeared to Jacob in his dream to inform Jacob that He would be with him as he journeyed to Egypt, where He would make Jacob a great nation and that Joseph would ‘close his eyes’.

Then the chapter continues with who’s who of Jacob’s family-the family tree. Then Joseph sends Judah before him to meet his father at Goshen.  In chapter 49, the great moment comes when Joseph meets his father.  Jacob is now ready to die, but Joseph ensures that his father sees that his other sons are well cared for through Joseph’s culturally aware assistance.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS.

1  How does God communicate to us in our dreams?
2.    Do we act on what God has communicated to us as Jacob did?
3.    Is there a family member/s that we need to be reconciled/re-united?
4.    What purpose does Jacob’s family tree serve?
5.    What is our attitude towards dying- our timing or God’s timing?
6.    Are we culturally sensitive and aware when communicating with other people?
7.    Is cultural sensitivity important to us-why/why not?
8.    Are we prepared to assist others who have hurt us in the past or do we still hold some resentment?
9.    How would Jacob have felt meeting Joseph and seeing his whole family reunited- do we desire this for our own family and/or family in faith?
10. How important is our family tree/family tree of faith (e.g. saints, holy souls in Purgatory)?]

Chapter 46 completes the reconciliation, with Joseph’s family beginning to move forward to being a great nation just as God promised Jacob.
