Compendium Series: Private revelation

 Compendium Series:

JESUS THE TEACHER: COMPENDIUM SERIES ICON.

'Private revelation

Last week, we explored the 3 phases of revelation. To complete this discussion, this week we explore the interesting issue of private revelation.

10. What is the value of private revelation? (CCC: 67)

Compendium states:

While not belonging to the deposit of faith, private revelations may help a person to live the faith as long as they lead us to Christ.  The Magisterium of the Church, has the duty of evaluating such private revelations, cannot accept those which claim to surpass or correct that definitive Revelation which is Christ.

What does this mean for me?

·                      I can praise God for the gift of the Holy Spirit who has guided and helped me to live the faith and come closer to Christ.
·                     I can appreciate the gift of private revelation that the Magisterium of the Church has accepted in the lives of the saints and holy men and women since their revelations may encourage me in my spiritual journey.

Questions to consider:

1.            Who is the Magisterium of the Church made up and what is its role?
2.            What does the term 'private revelation' mean to me?
3.            Why does the Magisterium have the duty to evaluate private revelations?
