Solemnity of the Baptism of Our Lord.

SOLEMNITY OF THE BAPTISM OF OUR LORD.

Baptism of Our Lord.

The Christmas season runs from evening prayer I of Christmas until the Sunday after Epiphany or after 6 January, inclusive. However technically Christmastide runs through until 2nd February finishing with the Presentation of Our Lord in the Temple.  This makes 50 days and mirrors Pentecost which is of course, 5o days after Easter.

The Sunday falling after 6 January is the feast of the Baptism of the Lord. The Feast of the Baptism of Our Lord is the second of seven solemnities of the Lord. It celebrates the revelation of God to all the world of his becoming man so that we may share in His divinity.

One way I like to renew and celebrate my baptism is to watch on EWTN from the Sistine Chapel, Holy Mass presided over by His Holiness Benedict XVI with the Sacrament of Baptism. If you have ewtn or know someone who has EWTN, then why not check your area and watch this special event.  If you do not have EWTN, then why not find out when a baptism is being held in your local parish, and attend.  Perhaps also see how you could have it connected. It is well worth having it connected.

May we be faithful to our baptism, nurture the divine within us and listen to the voice of God's Spirit.
