GENESIS SERIES
Chapter 49 PROMISE PASSES TO JUDAH
God chooses his man freely and not
according to the criterion of nature since Ruben was the first-born, nor
according to success, since Joseph was the outstanding member of the
family. The promise given to the patriarchs passes to Judah, it is from
the tribe of Judah that will be born King David and his illustrious descendant,
the Messiah. Christ is ‘the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Scion of
David, who has won the victory” (Apocalypse3:5). The blessing by Jacob to Judah
is contained in vs8-10) as follows:
‘Judah, your brothers shall
praise you; your hand shall be on the neck of your enemies; your father's sons
shall bow down before you.
Judah is a lion's whelp; from the
prey, my son, you have gone up. He stooped down, he couched as a lion,
and as a lioness; who dares rouse him up?
The sceptre shall not depart from
Judah, nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, until he comes to whom it
belongs; and to him shall be the obedience of the peoples”.
Later in this chapter Jacob breathes
his last and is buried.
