OPENING PRAYER

The Opening Prayer of the Mass for the Solemnity of the Baptism of Our Lord reads as follows:

                                               Let us pray
that we may be faithful to our baptism)

Almighty eternal God,
when the Spirit descended upon Jesus at His baptism in the Jordan,
You revealed Him as Your own beloved Son.
Keep us, your children born of water and the Spirit
faithful to our calling.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

In making this prayer tangible for my life during this week, the following reflection questions emerged:
1.How will I be faithful to my baptism. What might this mean for you?
2. How do you recognise the presence of the Holy Spirit in your life?
3. How might the words ' You are beloved, my favour rests on you' echo in your heart as God speaks them to you each day?
4. What is my calling and what steps to I need to take to be faithful to it?
5.What does being born of water and the Spirit mean for you?
6.How might I follow Christ's path of service and reflect the glory of His kingdom in my personal life, work and parish life?

Baptism of Our Lord.

Baptism of Our Lord.

The Christmas season runs from evening prayer I of Christmas        until the Sunday after Epiphany or after 6 January, inclusive. The      Sunday falling after 6 January is the feast of the Baptism of the         Lord. The Feast of the Baptism of Our Lord  is the second of            seven solemnities of the Lord. It celebrates the revelation of God      to all the world of his becoming man so that we may share in His     divinity.

May we be faithful to our baptism, nurture the divine within us
and listen to the voice of God's Spirit.
