Chapter 40 Joseph in Prison.
In prison, Joseph sees that the chief
butler and baker who were also prisoners, were upset. He asks them why
and they reveal their dreams to him. Joseph listens and then interprets
his compassion’s dreams, with everything coming about as he foresaw. In
vs 14-15, Joseph tells them of his plight and asks the chief butler to remember
him when he got out of prison and was restored to his position. He does not
promise Joseph that he would, but when all was well with himself once more, he
forgot about Joseph.
So which character do we identify
with in this chapter?
Are we like
·
Joseph, who saw the sadness of the
chief butler and baker? Do we alert to
the non-verbal clues and body language of other people and act upon it?

·
Joseph who stopped to listen to their
story?
·
Joseph who was compassionate and
assisted them in their trouble (by
interpreting their dreams for them)?

·
Joseph able to communicate the truth
to another especially when it is difficult?
·
the chief butler who used Joseph for
his own advantage and never listened
fully to Joseph’s need?

·
the chief butler by forgetting about
others in need when all is well in our lives?
Despite Joseph being a victim of his
circumstances, he still loved his fellow human being. He had not become
bitter, but hoped that someday that justice would prevail. He did not expect
reciprocation for his good deed but asked humbly for the help he required.
What happens to our personality and
how do we act when injustice has been committed towards ourselves?
